Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how TV Remote handles information when you use the app to discover, pair with, and control Google TV or Android TV devices on your local network.
Summary
TV Remote is designed to work locally on your device and local Wi-Fi network. The app does not require you to create an account, does not operate an advertising profile, and does not sell personal information.
Information the App Handles
The app may handle the following information to provide its remote control features:
- Local network device details: device names, IP addresses, service ports, and certificate fingerprints for TVs you discover or pair with.
- Pairing credentials: a locally generated client certificate and private key used for secure mutual TLS pairing with your TV.
- App preferences: onboarding status, last-used TV, selected app shortcuts, custom app shortcut names or links, haptic feedback, theater mode, keep-screen-awake, and similar settings.
- PIN entry during pairing: the pairing PIN you enter is used to complete pairing with your TV and is not saved by the app.
How Information Is Used
The app uses this information only to:
- Find compatible Google TV or Android TV devices on your local network.
- Pair securely with selected TVs.
- Reconnect to paired TVs and remember your preferred device.
- Send remote control commands that you choose in the app.
- Save your app settings and shortcut preferences on your device.
Local Network Access
TV Remote uses local network discovery, including mDNS or platform network service discovery, to find compatible TVs on the same Wi-Fi network. Remote commands and pairing messages are sent directly between your device and your TV over the local network. These local network operations are necessary for the app's core functionality.
Storage and Retention
Paired TV details and preferences are stored on your device using local app storage. Pairing credentials are stored using the platform's secure storage where available. This information remains on your device until you remove paired devices, clear the app's data, or uninstall the app.
Information Sharing
The app does not sell, rent, or trade your information. It does not send your paired device list, pairing credentials, or app preferences to the developer's servers. Information may be shared only when you choose to communicate with a TV on your local network, when required by law, or when necessary to protect rights, safety, or security.
Third-Party Services
TV Remote does not include third-party advertising or analytics services. The app may open or send shortcut links for services such as streaming apps when you choose those shortcuts. Those third-party services are governed by their own privacy policies.
Children's Privacy
The app is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, contact the developer so the issue can be reviewed.
Your Choices
You can control the information stored by the app by:
- Removing paired TVs from the app.
- Editing or deleting custom app shortcuts.
- Changing app preferences in settings.
- Clearing the app's data or uninstalling the app from your device.
- Revoking local network permissions through your device settings where supported.
Security
The app uses PIN-based pairing and mutual TLS certificates when communicating with paired TVs. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but the app is designed to keep pairing material on your device and to communicate directly with TVs on your local network.
Changes to This Policy
This policy may be updated from time to time. When changes are made, the effective date above will be updated. Continued use of the app after an updated policy is published means the updated policy applies.
